In the custom paint world you are bound to be asked to paint a portrait or image of a person which requires you to mix and shade with Skin Tones™. As if painting the human form was not hard enough now you have to dive deep into books and magazines to do an unofficial study of the human skin. Now that has all come to a screeching halt with the introduction of Skin Tones™ to the Alsa Signature Series. These tones have been designed by Fonzy, a world renowned artist famous for painting the human form in such realistic likeness that his creations literally take on a life of their own. Each of the six new colors were specially designed to make it easier for you to paint the human form. They will help you understand how professional artists use minimal shading techniques to create uncanny lifelike masterpieces worthy of display in an art museum. Each kit contains a comprehensive startup guide to bring you through the basics and get you on your way to achieving skin tone “perfection”.

PRODUCT REVIEW

 Copyright 2007 Airbrushtech.net

Creating flesh tones with automotive grade paints has always been a difficult chore. Unless you have a formula written down, keeping the flesh tones consistent from job to job is almost impossible. I was more than a little skeptical about purchasing another attempt by someone making a pre-packaged skin tone kit. After giving Alsa's "Fonzy Skin Tones" a test run, I have to say that I was impressed. Thanks to Dave Monnig of Coast Airbrush for his suggesting to mix the toners with Color Blender. This made the colors a little more transparent to achieve better control and smooth blending of the skin tones.
Most airbrush artists have their own way of applying different combinations of tone values in their work. That being said, I feel this kit is the most complete and accurate skin tone kit available. For me, the kit would have been complete if a pre mixed blush color was in the set. Although, the blush can be made by mixing the White Peach and Red Rock. The other colors in the kit are Cinnamon Stick, Dark Sienna and Coco Bean.
